Recently, I’ve been watching the amazing ‘Woolf Works’ – a 2015 Royal Ballet Production – Wayne McGregor’s vivid, vibrant investigation into Virginia Woolf’s life and work through dance, music, film, costume and lighting. A Ballet Triptych, divided into three Acts, McGregor explores three of her greatest novels: ‘Mrs Dalloway’, ‘Orlando’ and ‘The Waves’, weaving in her letters, essays, diaries and even a voice recording of Woolf herself.
Underpinning the success of this award winning ballet is Max Richter’s masterful score. I urge you to seek out the album ‘Three Worlds: Music from Woolf Works’.
I rather think Woolf would have been thrilled by this interpretation. The language of dance and music unfolding her images in creatively freeing ways.
