I mentioned the delicate song ‘Snow’ when I featured ‘Undertow’ – another song by Lisa Hannigan. In aesthetic terms the video forms something of a companion piece, proving once again that imagination and creativity are more valuable than a large budget.
I love the lyric:
Watching the snow falling down
Watching the city lose colour and sound
And we were looking
To find in the feather sky
The contour line from the summer
To Christmas time
‘Watching the city lose colour and sound’ perfectly expresses the muted absence of a white landscape – the ‘feather sky’ alive with the fluttering snowflakes, light as a bird’s wing.
As such, ‘Snow’ is my alternative ‘Christmas song’!
