For me, there is only one Elvis – Elvis Costello.

Born in London in 1954 to a record shop worker and Jazz musician, it’s perhaps understandable that he was to grow up to be something of a musical chameleon, embracing many different musical genres while always bringing to each table his own inimitable style.

Everyday I Write the Book is a playful song of longing – the metaphor of love affair as book brilliantly realised.

I’m glad the lyrics are included under this video – so my non-native English readers can appreciate how witty they are:

‘You were up to your old tricks / In chapters 4, 5 and 6’

Irresistible!
