“You’re too sensitive” they said
I said, “Okay, but let’s discuss this at the hospital.”
Anyone who has suffered from anxiety will identify with the lyrics of the song ‘Free’. It’s a struggle Florence Welch encapsulates with a great deal of black humour. There’s the reliably brilliant Bill Nighy as the personification of her disquiet – a great conceit to illustrate the song’s lyrics. I also love the dancing doctors!
She’s wonderfully dressed by my favourite designer Susie Bick. It’s no coincidence that her grey and rather heavy coat can’t quite contain the colour and panache of her bright orange dress.
Finally, it’s filmed with great flair in Kyiv. The vibrancy of Ukrainian folk art a beautiful backdrop for a track that, for all its dark subject matter, ends up joyously euphoric.
