If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out

I almost titled this ‘Letter’ ‘I Think I See the Light’ – another great song from the soundtrack of the film ‘Harold and Maude’ and one that encapsulates so much of the film’s message. In the end I chose another track ‘If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out’ as today I want to focus on the voice and lyrics of Cat Stevens, who wrote the film’s unforgettable soundtrack.

‘Harold and Maude’ is one of those very rare films that can touch you and leave you slightly altered and a big part of that are the songs:

‘And if you find a new way / Well, you can do it today / Well, you can make it all true’

The seeming simplicity of the lyrics actually contain multitudes – the limitless possibilities of life and the ambition with which you should approach it.
