The recent death of The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke hit me hard. As a great fan of the band, he was a vital part of ‘the songs that saved my life.’ Rourke’s bass was the steady heartbeat of the band – underpinning, in deliberate contrast, Morrissey’s theatrics.

Now the reunion that fans knew would never come, can never come. His death puts a final full stop. And yet, the music lives on and, as we remember Andy Rourke, he is again that young, supremely talented bassist in the 80’s band that were only together for five short years but somehow managed to re-write music history.
