Apart from possessing a hypnotic voice of great precision, Lisa Hannigan makes great videos – as here, in the visuals for her song ‘Undertow’. The lyrics are beautiful too…so under the influence of another’s words that she compares it to being swept under by the sea’s currents or ‘being underneath your weather’ as she poetically puts it – for me the song’s most memorable line.

In that sense, the song completes something of the same magic trick – sweeping the listener away as we are equally enchanted by the words of the song and the beautiful manner in which she sings it.

I also recommend Hannigan’s deceptively simple and delicate ‘Snow’. It too has a wonderful video. And for anyone who loves Portishead’s song ‘Glory Box’ (which I do) her live cover is unforgettable.
